Hessen is a place of education and research. It has much to offer prospective students, teachers and researchers from Germany and abroad. After all, Hessen’s universities are known for first-class research and teaching. In addition to twelve public universities and three colleges of public administration, further universities funded from other sources complete a broad spectrum.
Around half of all young people gaining secondary school diplomas or certificates in Germany move on to dual education. ‘Dual’ in this context indicates a combination of practical training within a company alternating with education at a vocational college. This combination of theory and practice is considered a distinctive feature of the German education system and has found international recognition.
