Home to 200,000 people, Kassel is the largest town in northern Hessen and is a pleasant place to live and work. Its art scene is appreciated domestically as well as by visitors from around the world. Every five years, Kassel hosts the Documenta – an international exhibition of modern art which attracts artists, collectors and even film stars from across the globe. The Wilhelmshöhe, a palace to the west of the town holding the state art collections, is also worth a visit. Close by, you will find the famous cascades beneath the statue of Hercules, which has been the town’s icon for more than 250 years.
Kassel never seems far from anywhere. Intercity services from the modern central station provide fast and easy connections to Frankfurt and the cities of the Ruhrgebiet every hour.
